Heard this on the radio news on the way to the office today - and yes, I listen to the radio on the drive to work. Radio stations that have hourly news broadcasts, no less. Anyway. I was busy dodging lunatic buses and Mat Cemerlangs/Gemilangs, so details are sketchy: apparently, earlier this morning an LRT train broke through the end-of-line barrier at the Sentul station, which is the last stop on the KL side of the STAR Line. One coach was left dangling over the precipice of the tracks, and the driver sustained minor injuries. No passengers were hurt. RAPID KL, the conglomerate that runs both the STAR and PUTRA lines, declined to comment.

I don’t know if this happened because the driver goofed and forgot to brake, or if the LRT system is mostly automated and experienced a glitch. This could be as embarrassing for the STAR line people as that bigass metal wheel falling onto the head of a journalist crossing the street was for the KL Monorail (happened a few years ago, while they were still testing it - anyone remember that?). But one thing’s for sure - forget buses and taxis, if i need to take public transportation in the next 2 weeks I’ll know which to take. Those trains ought to be pretty empty for a little while.

If anyone has more solid details, or a scanned newspaper article on it or something, drop a comment!
