Oh those sneaky record execs.

Cleverly disguised as the new generation of Myspacers’ answer to Forever the Sickest Kids, Metro Station comes complete with the obligatory piercings and skinny jeans.

What else. Oh yeah the band’s claim to fame? None other than Myspace. Says vocalist Trace, “We were on Myspace three months before we hit the charts. And when that happened, we were like, oh my god, this could really happen for us. Before that it had all seemed unreal.” Thanks are in order to their 325,384 (to date) friends on their Myspace page.

That aside, we have absolutely no qualms about the occasional pop punk band. Beneath all the hair product, Metro Station actually manages to induce some involuntary headbopping with their infectious brand of electro-infused power pop. We’re not kidding when we say “infectious” – their tunes really do grow on you, just as they have on us. And we’re not ashamed. Psh, after all, we here at JUICE are not music elitists. But in all seriousness, before you dismiss this LA quartet as yet another whiny prepubescent’s wet dream come true, give their self-titled debut album a spin. Forget the overplayed (and overhyped in our opinion) Shake It. Choice tracks include Kelsey, brimming with synthy-goodness, sweet enough to melt the hearts of many-a-thirteen year old, and Seventeen Forever, a crazy upbeat and age-appropriate track, seeing as one half of the band still aren’t legal. Why yes, there is more to Metro Station than just AA deep Vs and other assorted hipster gear.

For more on the band, check out their Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/metrostation and maybe even become their 325,385th friend! Woo!
